Taxi ► Booking: If you don’t know how to use the app, you can call a traditional taxi instead. Taxis are available everywhere in Danang, and the most 2 popular companies that you should call are: Mai Linh Taxi (+84 511 352 5252) or Vinasun Taxi (+84 511 368 6868) ► Duration: around 1 hour ► Cost: around 300.000VND – 400.000VND (USD $15.00 to $20.00). ► Pros and cons: A taxi is almost like renting a private car, so you can place many stuff on the car, and the duration is short. However, you might not be able to stop for taking photos, and some taxi drivers may go around to get more money from you. 4. Public Bus ► Booking: You can take bus number 1 which will take you directly from Danang and Hoi An, or the other way around. The bus departs every 20 minutes, starting from 5:30AM to 6PM everyday. ► Duration: about 1:30 hour ► Cost: 25000VND (USD $1)/one way. You can get on the bus first then purchase the ticket there. There’s no online ticket available for buses in Vietnam. Tips: the price is often printed on the window of the bus, so make sure to pay the right price. ► Pros and cons: This is the cheapest way to get from Danang to Hoi An, and the duration is not too long. However, you won’t have much space to store your stuff since there might be many people on the bus (but on lucky days, there might be very few people). Another downside of taking public bus is that the bus stop is about two miles from the airport, so you will need to take a taxi there anyway 5. Motorbike ► Booking: You can easily rent a motorbike in Danang. 2 motorbike rental services that you can reliably book are: Truong Dat motorbike rental: +84 969 722 744 or +84 969 822 844Lê Trường motorbike rental: +84 981 331 331 ► Duration: about 2 hour ► Cost: about 100.000VND/day, and you can get a discount if you rent it for a longer period. ► Pros and cons: Travelling by a motorbike is the best way to fully experience the beautiful coastline from Danang to Hoi An, and it’s also convenient because you are at your own pace. However, renting a motorbike will require you to put a deposit and your ID card to ensure, so you should prepare a notarized copy of your passport in advance. Also, the traffic in Vietnam may not be the same as in your country. It could be dangerous, so don’t try if you are not an experienced driver. Above are the best 5 ways to travel from Danang to Hoi An. We hope to have informed you sufficiently, and hope that you will be able to find the most suitable means of travel for your trip. Hanoi Updated November 2022. The trip from Hoi An to Da Nang airport is a popular route for travelers. As there is no Hoi An airport, Da Nang is the closest airport for visitors to Hoi An, and being the biggest city in Central Vietnam, it also has a train station linking north and south. With Hoi An and Da Nang being so close together, there’s a great choice of transport between the two cities. Whilst we focus on the journey to the airport here, the same methods can be used for those simply wanting to see the city itself – just hop off a little earlier! The journey from Hoi An to Da Nang can of course be made in the opposite direction and travel links remain the same. Read our guide to the best methods and their prices below. Table Of Contents How Far From Hoi An to Da Nang Airport? How to Get From Hoi An to Da Nang AirportWhat’s the Best Way to Travel? How Far From Hoi An to Da Nang Airport? Hoi An is approximately 30km from Da Nang and the airport is just 2km outside the main city centre. Although it’s possible to reach Da Nang from Hoi An in around 40 minutes, it’s best to allow 1 hr 30 mins for the journey in case of heavy traffic. How to Get From Hoi An to Da Nang Airport Hoi An Express Shuttle Bus
The Express Shuttle bus service is a great, cost-effective Hoi An to Da Nang airport transfer for those traveling light. Hoi An Express travel is a shared service running from early morning until late at night. The van picks up from hotels across Hoi An and of course does the return leg too – picking up from Da Nang airport and dropping off at your hotel. The Hoi An Express airport shuttle needs to be booked in advance and is understandably a popular option so try not to leave it till the last minute! If traveling in the opposite direction, your driver will arrive in the Da Nang terminal holding a piece of paper bearing your name. Taxi from Hoi An to Da Nang Airport Car Taxi
There’s a vast choice of car taxis available when traveling from Hoi An to Da Nang airport, or vice versa. And with them comes a vast difference in price. Prices vary between regular 4-seater cars and 7-seaters, as well as between drivers and companies. Always book a taxi in advance of your journey to avoid scams, however unlikely these may be, and ensure you have an agreed price estimate. If you’re unable to do this yourself, your hotel will be happy to arrange one for you. If traveling from Da Nang airport to Hoi An and you’ve been unable to book a fare in advance, book one from inside the airport when you land. You might pay a little more but that way you’ll avoid any surprises. Mai Linh & Faifoo Taxis
The two main taxi companies seen on the streets of Hoi An are Mai Linh (green) and Faifoo (yellow). You can book these over the telephone or hail them in the street. Both firms use meters but are reliable and honest. Mai Linh: +84 (0) 235 3914 914 Faifoo: +84 (0) 235 3919 191 Grab Cars
Grab is fine for short trips around Hoi An but at 450,000+ VND to Da Nang Airport other options should be preferred. Traveling from Da Nang international airport to Hoi An by grab is no better. Motorbike Taxi
Grab is well-known and reliable. You’ll be advised of your waiting time and a fixed price in advance (around 150,000 VND). You’ll also find various other ‘xe om’ (motorcycle taxis) around Hoi An. Many of these can be hailed on the street and are reliable, but the safest method is to book a Grab in advance. If going down the hail-a-bike route, agree on the price before you set off and write it down to be on the safe side. Unless it’s a Grab, be cautious using a motorbike taxi at night. Private Car
Various operators run private car services for distances long and small. For travel between Da Nang Airport and Hoi An private car is the preferred option for most, especially groups. Prices are as follows, depending on the size of your party: 4 seater car around 250,000 VND
7-16 seater car around 350,000 VND Find our recommended private car with driver services here. Motorbike Hire
As anyone who has spent some time in Vietnam will know, motorbike is the number 1 method for traveling around. If you’re an experienced rider, then making the airport journey from Hoi An to Da Nang is a great option – if you miss the traffic you can be there in around 40 minutes. However, you’ll have to shop around for a company that allows you to drop off your vehicle in another city. If you’ve never ridden before or haven’t experienced riding through Da Nang – a much busier city than Hoi An – then stay safe and don’t risk it. Daily rental prices for motorbike hire are around 150,000 VND, depending on your bike’s power and the trip you’re planning. But you’ll usually find a higher, fixed cost for a 1-way rental. Remember that you may not be able to drop off your motorbike directly by the airport, so factor travel time from your drop-off place into your journey. Important note: even if you have a motorcycle license from your home country, riding in Vietnam without a local one may mean you won’t be insured should anything go wrong. Read our full guide to motorcycle hire here. What’s the Best Way to Travel? For convenience, the Hoi An Express Shuttle or a private car are the best options when traveling between Hoi An and Da Nang. If you’re traveling light and don’t mind a 90-minute journey, then the shuttle is a great option for you or a small party. And for peace of mind, a private car is still cheap by Western standards. Avoid delays and surprises by sticking to these methods and ensure your adventure in Vietnam continues with aplomb! Written By

Forget Ha Long Bay and Sapa – Hoi An is the quintessential must-visit destination in Vietnam. This magical little town lies just 18 miles south of Da Nang and is often voted the top destination in the country. View All Trips While beautiful, Hoi An is a small town and there is no airport. The nearest is Da Nang International Airport (approximately a 50-minute drive away), so the easiest way to get there is to fly into Da Nang. If you’re a backpacker traversing the country from one end to the other, you could take the notorious sleeping buses for a budget-friendly yet less comfortable ride. However if you are strapped for time, Culture Trip certainly recommends you fly in to Da Nang and then make your way from there to Hoi An. Here’s how to travel between the two. Da Nang | © xiquinhosilva / Flickr Private car The number one option to get from Da Nang to Hoi An is to rent a private car. It’s comfortable, fast, convenient and you can stop anywhere on the way. If you book your accommodation in Hoi An, you can ask the hotel to arrange a car to pick you up at a premium. The total can range from VND $300,000 – $400,000 (USD $15.00 to $20.00) depending on whether the car is a 4-seater or a 7-seater, making this the most expensive option of all. However, sharing the cost makes renting a private car worth it. Call a Grab Grab is a competitor of Uber, offering similar services in the Southeast Asian market and has recently acquired Uber, creating a monopoly. To be able to hail yourself a GrabCar, all you need is a mobile phone, internet and their app. Plug in your pick up location and destination, choose the type of vehicle you want (motorbike, 4-seater car, 7-seater car, or shared car), and book. For solo travelers with a single backpack, the motorbike option (GrabBike) is extremely cheap and convenient. Healthy competition | © Piumi Rajapaksha Hail a taxi Taxis are (generally) readily available at Da Nang airport during the day. No prior arrangements are required – just hand over your destination address to the driver who will take you there. The only downside is that some drivers aren’t aware of all the roads in the region and may have trouble finding your location. There are also scams you should be wary of, and to avoid them these companies are often recommended: Mai Linh Taxi: +84 511 352 5252 Vinasun Taxi: +84 511 368 6868 Reliable taxis | © Prince Roy / Flickr Dichungtaxi is a recently launched service available at the airport offering the option to book a shared (or even private) taxi to your destination. Booking must be done on their website, and the details will be forwarded to the drivers that will pick you up. Both these options will cost you around VND $300,000 – $400,000 (USD $15.00 to $20.00). Conquer the public bus There is a direct bus line between Hoi An and Da Nang. For just VND $25,000 (USD $1.00), bus number 1 will commute you between the two cities. Buses depart every 20 minutes, starting from 5:30 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m., and the journey will last about an hour-and-a-half. Apart from time, another downside is that the bus stop is about two miles from the airport, so you will need to cab there anyway. Drive a motorbike Save the best and most exciting for last. Motorbike rentals are cheap, allow for flexibility and you can use them to get around the city. Expect to pay around VND $30,000 (USD $6.00) per day, with discounts for longer-term rental. Motorbikes everywhere | © Dieter Hefner / Flickr Bear in mind, renting a motorbike for a long period of time requires some form of ID to be left behind, which you will get back once the motorbike is returned safely. A copy of your passport should suffice. Opt for this only if you have experience driving a motorbike. The traffic in Vietnam may overwhelm you, so do not take this risk if you are not an experienced driver. Hopefully with increased tourism again this will restart again, but as of current, we are still waiting. So, what is the best way to get from Da Nang to Hoi An? Taking a taxi can be expensive, though taking a local bus can be a bit daunting for the first time, plus how are you even meant to know which one to get on! So let’s go through all the options from a taxi, bus, and private transfer to the taxis and buses to find the right option for you. Public Bus From Da Nang To Hoi An

Sinh Tourist Bus From Da Nang To Hoi An beautiful laterns hanging up in hoi an Taxi From Da Nang To Hoi An
A super easy and convenient way to travel from Da Nang to Hoi An is by taxi. This is the perfect choice if you are looking for something that is comfortable, private, and efficient. Whether you are already in Da Nang at a hostel or hotel, or perhaps you are wanting to travel to Hoi An from the airport or train station in Da Nang there will be plenty of taxis around who can take you the distance. I mean if you have either traveled to Vietnam or anywhere in Southeast Asia, you will know how easy taxis are to come by. This option generally takes around 45 minutes to travel between the two cities depending on traffic. How Much Is A Taxi
Depending on your exact location in Da Nang, time of day, the taxi company that you book with, and even the mood of the driver can and will affect the end price that you will pay. You can also find yourself spending more than necessary when finding a driver in popular locations such as Da Nang airport or train station. If possible, in such situations, you are best off walking a short distance away and then getting a taxi. Nevertheless, you can expect to pay between 300,000 to 400,000 VND or $13.00 to $17.00 on the taxi journey from Da Nang to Hoi An. Should You Prebook Your Taxi
To keep things stress-free you may decide you want to instead pre-book your taxi rather than just trying to find one on the side of the road. This is a good method when you are worried about getting ripped off, something which unfortunately is a common occurrence in Vietnam. You can use 12.Go Asia to prebook your taxi from Da Nang to Hoi An. I have used this company throughout Vietnam as well as elsewhere in Southeast Asia with no issues. They offer instant confirmation, secure online payment, and price guarantees. Booking a Grab Taxi
Grab is a mobile app similar to Uber. It is used widely in Southeast Asia and often will provide you with better rates than getting a taxi by the meter. It also takes away the stress of having to negotiate a rate or make sure you are using a reputable company. I have also used Grab all throughout Vietnam and it is an excellent way to travel. I also quite like that it predetermined your rate so you know what to expect and that you are receiving a fair price. If you are not staying over in Hoi An, perhaps just wanting to do a day trip, you can also book a motorbike via the Grab app. This will be cheaper again than booking a vehicle. To use Grab you will need a Vietnamese sim card or to download the app before you leave home so you can register your phone number. I always try to get a local sim card wherever I am traveling as it makes it easy to use apps like these when on the road and they are usually pretty affordable, especially in Southeast Asia. Private Transfer From Da Nang To Hoi An
Next up is the option of taking a private transfer. These can be rebooked through your hotel in Da Nang prior to arriving. They will send out a special taxi driver, or just a general person, to collect you from your desired place in Da Nang and bring you to your hotel in Hoi An. This option generally takes around 45 minutes to travel between the two cities depending on traffic and prices can start from around $20.00. Public Bus From Da Nang To Hoi An
Note: Since Covid hit unfortunately the public bus between Da Nang and Hoi An has been out of service. Hopefully with increased tourism again this will restart again, but as of current, we are still waiting. A budget-friendly option to travel from Da Nang to Hoi An, perfect for backpackers, is taking the public bus. This is also the option I choose, simply because it was the cheapest. Though that doesn’t mean it is for everyone. This is definitely the local way to travel. Expect plenty of stopping along the way, picking up and dropping off passengers. Also don’t expect there to be air conditioning. Though if it’s warm they will drive with the doors open, just make sure your bags don’t fall out. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bean Knight (@beanknight) Where To Catch The Bus From
You will want to take bus #1, also known as the yellow bus, to get from Da Nang to Hanoi. This is a local bus that just drives between Da Nang and Hoi An throughout the day. You can catch it from the museum, Cho Market, the Cathedral, and a few other stops in town as well. We caught it the block over from the train station, just head over to the next street away from the train station, and the bus drives through here. You can find the exact bus stop locations on Google Maps. Though the locals are friendly enough to point you in the correct location, at least they were with us. The bus runs from 5.30am to 6pm, departing every 20 minutes in the high season and every 40 minutes in the low season. In Hoi An the bus stops at Bến xe Hội An Nguyễn Tất Thành bus station, 1.5km north of the Ancient Town. Though it is a flat and pathed walk into the city center, which makes it a lot easier to navigate. How Much Are Bus Tickets
It costs 18,000 VND / $0.80 per person to take the bus from Da Nang to Hoi An. Though be aware that it does cost extra if you are traveling with luggage. Instead, a ticket will cost 30,000 VND / $1.30 with luggage. This is simply because you are taking up extra space with your luggage and they won’t be able to fit as many people on the bus. Be aware this is the cost for one large suitcase or backpack. If you are traveling with multiple pieces of luggage by yourself you may want to look at a different option as you will need to be able to get your bags on and off quickly depending on where you are stopping and starting. My Experience Taking The Public Bus
Note: Since Covid hit unfortunately the public bus between Da Nang and Hoi An has been out of service. Hopefully with increased tourism again this will restart again, but as of current, we are still waiting. After taking the train from Hue to Da Nang we needed to take some sort of transport from Da Nang to Hoi An. Doing some prior research I decided against taking a taxi, simply because this would be too expensive for my Vietnam travel budget. Since it was only midday we decided we would take the public bus. We had a semi idea where the bus stop was, and if the bus never came then we had plenty of time to come up with a plan B. Luckily there were a few groups from the train who all had the same idea and we all started to cross the road away from the train station entryway and head to the next street over. We all kind of bunched together in a spot we thought was the stop by the traffic lights. But a local soon came over and pointed us in the correct direction about 50meters or so down the street. Soon enough the bus came along and we all jumped on board. We paid the 30,000 VND which is the ticket price including bags and found a spot down the back of the bus with a few other travelers. Our bags were pilled up on a large space on the floor as the bus continued down the street. I sat back and watched the sights go past. The pass stopped and started again a few times in the city of Da Nang, though as soon as we were out of there it was an easy drive alongside the coastline to Hoi An. Honestly, the drive itself is rather uneventful, there are not any spectacular landscapes along the way. Though soon enough the bus pulled into a small little depot seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Looking at our phones it was only a short walk from here to our accommodation, so we headed on the way to our homestay. It was a super easy walk with wide footpaths and minimal obstructions. Hoi An Express Bus From Da Nang To Hoi An
An awesome option for travelers between Da Nang Airport and Hoi An Old Town is by taking the Hoi An Express. They are a popular transfer company with travelers with buses departing every hour between 5am and 11pm daily. Though depending on what time your flight arrives you may find yourself waiting a little while for the next bus to depart. Nevertheless, if you are arriving from an international flight you may find yourself waiting a while to get your visa on arrival anyway. The journey on the Hoi An Express Bus costs $8.40 per person making it a great option for solo travelers or those on a mid-range budget. When you prebook a representative will meet you at arrivals with your name on a place card and take you to the bus. If you are not overly confident about traveling and navigating airports this provides an excellent option. The buses also have air conditioning and free wifi on board. Lastly, they will also drop you off right outside of your hotel in Hoi An. Just be aware that if it is outside of the main city center there may be an extra charge. If you think the Hoi An Express shuttle bus is the perfect choice for you to get from Da Nang to Hoi An then you can book tickets over at Get Your Guide. You will see there are over a thousand reviews showing just how popular this method of transport is! You will see there are multiple options when you book including private minivan and sedan transfers that start at $28.00. taking the hoi an express van from da nang to hoi an Sinh Tourist Bus From Da Nang To Hoi An
Last but not least is the option to take the Sinh Tourist bus from Da Nang to Hoi An. This is a great choice if you are already in the city of Da Nang or perhaps arrived at the train station. The bus departs from The Sinh Tourist office located at 16, 3 Thang 2, Thuan Phuoc in the north-western part of the city. It is 8 kilometers from the main bus terminal and 2 kilometers from Con Market in the center of the city. The Sinh Tourist bus departs twice daily, in the morning at 10am and in the afternoon at 3.30pm. You can expect the journey to take around an hour and a half depending on traffic. The cost of the ticket from Da Nang to Hoi An with the Sinh Tourist is 250,000 VND / $10.80 per person. You can either book online at 12.Go Asia or Baolau. Alternatively, if you’d like to book in person, you can do so at their office when you arrive in Da Nang. They are a popular bus company with travelers and I have used them numerous times in my Vietnam travels. They are always professional, reputable, and reliable. Many times I have chosen to pay a little bit more to travel with them than a random company. There will be air conditioning, plenty of luggage space, and extra legroom. For the Da Nang to Hoi An route, The Sinh Tourist uses sleeper buses with lie-down seats. I am not alw3ays the biggest fan of these, but it is a short distance, and this company has taken extra steps to make their buses as comfortable as possible. The journey finishes at The Sinh Tourist office in Hoi An. This is located at 646 Hai Ba Trung, 1.5km north of the Night Market and 600m from the Ancient City. the sinh tourist bus from da nang to hoi an Where To Stay In Hoi An?

Below you will a detailed guide on to get from Da Nang to Hoi An. Option 1: By Bus (Most Popular Method)
There are three different ways to get from Danang to Hoi An. The first is the Hoi An Express Shuttle Bus. This one is popular if you are arriving at the airport. If you have been staying in Da Nang City, it would be easier to either catch the Sinh Tourist Bus or simply hop on the public bus. Please find more info on each of these below. 1. Hoi An Express Shuttle Bus
Source: Hoi An Express Journey Time: 60 Min
Perfect For: Those who arrive at the airport
Cost involved: US $6 Click here to check prices for the Hoi An Express Shuttle Bus The Hoi An Express bus from Danang Airport to Hoi An is one of the most popular and convenient ways to travel to Hoi An. The bus is very affordable and the drivers drive safely. Your driver will be waiting for you at the airport upon arrival and will drop you off at your hotel (if it is located in Hoi An city center). The bus is comfortable & air-conditioned. They have different-sized vehicles to suit your needs or you could even choose to use their shared vans. This is our preferred way to get from the airport to Hoi An, as well as from Hoi An to Danang. 2. The Viet Nam Travel Bus
Journey Time: 45 Min Cost involved: US $3
Perfect for: Those who are already in Da Nang city Click here to check prices for the Tourist Transfer Bus This bus leaves from Da Nang Office 15 Thanh Luong 25. So make sure that the departure destination is close to your accommodation. This Danang to Hoi An bus is designed for tourists and only costs a fraction more ($3) than the public bus ($1). I wouldn’t even think twice about the extra $2 to have air conditioning and a comfy seat for the 45min bus ride ahead. Plus it has storage space for all your luggage (something that can be a pain when you go on the public bus). 3. Public Bus Journey Time: 70 – 80 Min Cost involved: US $1 To encourage tourists to visit Da Nang, the government launched a direct bus from Danang to Hoi An – Bus #1 – for just 18000 VND ($1) – 30 0000 VND (with luggage). Although the bus is the cheapest travel option, it will take a bit longer, 70 to 80 minutes to get to Hoi An. The bus is well known as the yellow bus. Bus services start at 5:30 in the morning and stop operating at 18:00, with a frequency of 1 bus every 20 minutes. (This depends on the season, expect the bus to operate less frequently during low or shoulder season). For your convenience, you can use Google Maps and its schedule explorer to pinpoint the nearest bus stop near your stay and check out the Danang to Hoi An bus timetable. The ticket for this Da Nang-Hoi An bus can be easily purchased on the bus but make sure to pay the right price: 18000 VND (1$). If you are arriving from the airport this option will be less convenient because the nearest bus stop is around 3km away. It can also be a pain if you have plenty of luggage for you, but this option works well for backpackers. Option 2: Private Car Transfer Journey Time: 45 min +
Cost involved: US $16- $80 Click here to check prices for private transfers Next, you have the option of grabbing a private car transfer. These are especially convenient if you are traveling from Da Nang Airport to Hoi An or vice versa (from Hoi An to Danang Airport). Your first option is to simply inquire at your hotel to see if they can pick you up. Once you have booked your stay in Hoi An, ask your hotel if they can arrange for a private car to pick you up. If they can, then you will want to give them your pickup address at the airport or wherever you are staying in Da Nang. The cost of a private car can vary, so it is a little hard to figure out an exact budget, but this is the easiest way to travel from Da Nang to Hoi An or vice versa (from Hoi An to Da Nang). Make sure to compare the price they give you against 12GOAsia’s price of only $16 USD for the vehicle. Hotels often charge more in comparison to sites online. Click here to grab your private taxi transfer through 12GOAsia. If you are traveling in a group or with your family, this will be the best way! In addition, a private car pickup is available at any time whereas taxis are more difficult to find during the quiet hours of the day. Option 3: Taxi Journey Time: 30 – 45 min
Cost involved: US $15 – $23 Many locals and frequent travelers to the area consider a Da Nang to Hoi An taxi the easiest way to get to Hoi An from Da Nang. You won’t have to make any prior arrangements since you can catch a taxi from the city center or the airport. It is important to know though that the taxi drivers drive really fast and I would even go as far as to say that they are pretty crazy drivers! Often there won’t be any seat belts in them either. For many solo travelers, this might not be a problem, but for families, I’m sure you would invest a bit more money for a safer means of transfer! A taxi from Danang Airport to Hoi An will take you around 30 – 45 minutes and will cost you from $15 to $23 USD. Make sure your driver is aware of where to take you to. Some of them may not be very familiar with the Hoi An area and they could end up driving in circles trying to find the destination. There is a new service that was recently launched at the Da Nang airport – Dichungtaxi (shared Taxi). By booking your taxi on their site, the system will send your booking information to drivers and have them pick you up. You can share the taxi with other people heading the same way by choosing the “share” option. If not, you can always take the “private” taxi as usual. This new service is potentially cheaper than other normal options and can also help you avoid being scammed since their pricing is fixed based on the package you select. Shared taxis will be around 150.000 VND ($7) and the normal one will be 220.000 VND ($10). Option 4: Motorbike
Journey Time: 35 – 45 Min
Cost involved: US $6 If you are truly the adventure type, then this last option will be perfect for you! Traveling by motorbike is the preferred option for most locals and is actually the most popular form of transportation in Vietnam. If you choose this method, please be careful and make sure you have experience with driving a motorbike. Traffic in Vietnam is quite different from traffic in other countries; driving requires a special set of skills like situation awareness, good reflexes, excellent balance, and guts of steel. If you do not have this set of skills, do not take the risk. There are 2 common types of motorbikes: manual and automatic transmission. Automatic bikes are the first choice for most travelers because they are easier to handle, especially in light of the slew of new traffic laws you must obey. Just turn the throttle and it will run. However, if you also plan to visit other nice spots in the area including Son Tra peninsula or challenge yourself to Hai Van pass, then the manual bike will be more suitable since you can manually control the torque (force) which is essential to going uphill.
Remember to check the bike carefully: tires, horn, brakes, and lights. If you have rented a manual bike, then also check the gear pedal. Make sure all functions are in good condition and take a photo of the shop, with contact and address, or take their business card with you in case something unexpected happens on the way and you need their assistance. The average price for a bike rental is 130,000 – 200,000 VND ($6) per day. Some shops will give you a discount for a longer rental period. There are a few small shops that provide bike rentals for less than 130,000 VND per day but this is because they rent older motorbikes; make sure nothing is missing or wrong with the bike if you choose this option. You will have to leave your ID or your passport – sometimes they allow a copy – at the rental shop in order to rent a motorbike and ensure the bike’s safe return. You can either go directly to the shop to retrieve the bike or you can pay the shop extra money and they will bring it to your place. How Far is Danang from Hoi An

I’m taking notes of your Vietnam travel tips and guides. Interesting… Planning a visit in mid December, hope the weather will be fine. Thanks. Enjoy your trip!! 🙂 Beware of public bus. They try to charge us 100K each, we were able to negotiate down to 50K per person that is still way more than 15K they charge locals. Definitely would not recommend. Thanks for your feedback Denisa. It is such a shame that they feel the need to take advantage of travellers like that. Doesn’t sound like you guys had a pleasant experience at all. thanks for this post, I’m collecting travel tips in Vietnam, this is a great post. Have never had any problem with the public bus. Pay 20000 dong and 30 if I travel with big luggage. The price is 18000, as printed outside in front of the bus. But don’t expect to get the 2000 in return. If you use the seat next to you for luggage then if course you pay for that seat also. Just be sure to have the right amount of money in cash and hand it over when they collect the payment. Otherwise it’s the same what ever you try to buy, if you ask for the price they will try to overcharge you. The walk from the station to the nearest bus stop is easy! Standing in front of the entrance of the station go straight ahead until you see the Pizza Hut on the left, turn left there and walk 3-400 meters down the road, on the right side you’ll see the bus stop. And if you’re close to it, looking all touristy the guy on the bus will shout out “r u going to Hoi an” All and all I’ll say it’s not more than 1 km to walk from the station. Hi..you only left yesterday… we are already at our hotel on danang central. How do we find a bus stop and timetable.if u have a route number and a photo of the bus… can you send to [email protected]. thanks greg Tried the tourist bus method and walked to depot only to find a day trip is impossible. Bus leaves Danang at 10.30am – arrives at 12.00pm and the return bus is 1.45pm. Waste of a long walk. So regarding the local bus. Update for 11 / 2019. The official price is printed on the bus. It is 18.000 Dong pp. However the greedy cheating Bus ladies will try to rip you off. We payed 30.000 each on the way there. On the way back the price had changed to 40.000. the price is printed on the bus. Near the front door. They just want to extort some money for personal profit. Should be arrested. On getting off the bus the cheating bus lady tried to hide the price sticker on the bus under a towel So I wouldn’t see it. Such a cheat. Take a picture of the price sticker on the bus before you get on and show it to the cheating lady. Only pay for the correct amount. Such behaviour is what gives Vietnam a bad name. Just appalling. Oh my gosh! I think it is getting worse and worse in Vietnam due to the massive rise of tourism there. This is just appaling and seems more effort than it is worth. Recommend for those that can afford it to just hire a private driver, seems like a more peaceful experience. Thanks for the update Paul! Super helpful. That sounds terrible!! I guess you just need to be on the lookout for some people. It is sad really that things like this can happen. Sorry to hear about your experience. Comments are closed. “Skip to content Written either Da’Nang or Danang, this city on the central coast of Vietnam is key transport hub and popular beachside resort at the same. And just down the road, less than 30 km away, is another hugely popular Vietnam destination – the charming city of Hoi An with its historic centre and beautiful-lantern lit streets. Given their proximity together, as well as the value they provide for travellers, it’s no coincidence that both Da’Nang and Hoi An make popular stops on any Vietnam itinerary, and yes, they were part of mine too! As such, knowing how to get between these 2 destinations is a key question for many independent travellers and, having made the journey myself, I’m pleased to say I can bring you the full lowdown from a solo female traveller whose been there and done it. Covering bus, taxi, rideshare and shuttle, here’s my full guide on how to travel from Da’Nang to Hoi An… Related Posts 13 Best Things to Hoi An, Vietnam

As I mentioned, it’s less than 30 km between the 2 great travel must-see’s of Da’Nang and Hoi An, meaning many people visit at least one or both of these spots during their time in Vietnam. Regardless of whether they are spending the night in both locations however, almost every traveller will arrive into Da’Nang first. This is because Hoi An lacks both an airport and a railway station, meaning that for those of us arriving into Central Vietnam from other spots around the country, as I did, you’re likely to touch down in Da’Nang. If you’re travelling from farther away, such as cities like Hanoi of Ho Chi Minh City, you might want to take a short flight to Da’Nang, especially if you’re on a tight timeframe. As always, I use Skyscanner to find the best flight deals on domestic flights in Vietnam. Alternatively, if you’re looking to save some money, you may want to opt for a train to Da’Nang. Much cheaper, but taker longer too, trains in Vietnam are very well organised and comfortable. They also often run overnight, which can help save time and money too. If you ever want to book long distance trains (or buses) in Vietnam, then I highly recommend the site 12Go, which makes comparing and booking services in English secure and easy. Once you get to Da’Nang (and perhaps enjoy a few days here), you’ll then want to make your way to Hoi An and here’s how… #1 By Public Bus
So the first way to travel between Da’Nang and Hoi An is by public bus. This is the cheapest option for moving between the 2 cities, and is used by many locals, however it does require a bit more hassle. For starters, you’ll have to get from the airport or railway station to the bus station – easy enough, but it is something to think about. The good news is that, if you’re arriving by railway into Da’Nang, the station where the bus to Hoi An departs from, is just 1km away. Otherwise, if you’re already staying in Da’Nang, the public bus might be a good option for you too. Once you arrive into Hoi An, you’ll then have to find the right bus. Again, this is easy enough to do by asking around, but is something else to bear in mind. You” want to look out for the bus marked #1 – this is the bus to Hoi An. The journey takes around 45 mins and is very cheap – little over a dollar – you’ll need cash to pay the bus driver. Also worth bearing in mind is the fact that this bus can only accommodate small bags so, if you have large suitcases, the bus is probably not for you! Once you arrive in Hoi An, you’ll then have to also get from this bus station to your accommodation. This extra hassle, and the likelihood of paying for a taxi, kind of negates the advantages of getting the public bus from Da’Nang to Hoi An and therefore I wouldn’t pick it as a top option unless you’re on a super tight budget and travelling with very little luggage. #2 By Taxi
The second option when it comes to travelling from Da’Nang to Hoi An is by taxi. This is the most expensive option, but doesn’t have to be arranged in advance and is therefore hassle-free. It is also private and, in general, secure. This is a great option if you’re arriving into Da’Nang airport as taxis hang around outside the arrivals terminal and are therefore super easy to find and catch. Getting a taxi is also a quick option – you’ll be taken straight from Da’Nang to Hoi An without making any stops – and in general taxi drivers picking up tourists will usually speak a good level of English. Again you’ll need cash to pay the driver and just ensure they understand exactly where you want to go and are from a reputable company, such as the recognisable yellow taxis of Faifoo, which are common in Central Vietnam. Also ensure that taxi drivers use a meter or you agree a price in advance. A good price from Da’Nang to Hoi An is around $20 USD. This can be made more affordable if you can find other people to share a taxi with you. #3 By Rideshare
The third option for travelling from Da’Nang to Hoi An is by rideshare. Rideshares are very popular in Southeast Asia, including in Vietnam, and essentially compromise of companies like Uber that bring together independent drivers through their app technology. The most popular rideshare option in Vietnam is Grab, which offers incredibly affordable rides in both cars and motorbikes. Unless you’re travelling with almost no luggage, you’ll probably want to get a Grab car. You can order a Grab there and then in Da’Nang and it will come and pick you up from wherever you are. Always check with the driver they are happy to take you as far as Hoi An and also that you clearly mark your accommodation option as the drop-off point. A bit more ad-hoc, but in general very safe and easy to use (especially when it comes to navigating language barriers), Grab is great option for budget travellers and those who require flexibility. Of course, to use Grab or Uber in Da’Nang you’ll need to have a Vietnamese SIM and data on your phone, so if you don’t have this, this might not be the option for you. If you choose Grab or Uber bike, then ensure you wear a helmet – drivers are required to provide one and you should wear it! Learn more about using rideshare apps when travelling here. #4 By Shuttle
And finally, the last method of transport you can use to get between Da’Nang and Hoi An is a shuttle bus. This is a great option for solo travellers who want to join forces with others to keep the costs of this journey down and also to ensure they are safe. The other benefit is that shuttle buses will pick you up directly from the airport or railway station in Da’Nang and take you straight to the door of your accommodation in Hoi An. This also provides peace of mind and is great if you’ve got a lot of luggage. Shuttles also tend to be cheaper because they can be split between multiple travellers. Often they take a bit longer (as you have to wait to gather all the relevant passengers and then do the rounds as everyone gets dropped off in Hoi An), but it’s often a small price to pay for an organised and well-priced direct service. You can also book shuttles in advance, which can be handy if you want to organise your itinerary and map out your plans. Book your shuttle from Da’Nang city to Hoi An at a great rate here. Tours of Central Vietnam
And finally, the last option on this list, you can also take a multi-day tour in Vietnam that includes either the destinations of Da’Nang, Hoi An or both. These tours will certainly include all transport across the country, not least between to Hoi An from Da’Nang or elsewhere in the country. Travel Guide to Da’Nang and Hoi An
When to Visit? The best time to visit Hoi An and Da’Nang is during the cooler drier season, which in this central part of Vietnam lasts from March to August. Within this, March through May are perhaps the optimum months. At this time the humidity is not too bad and the water conditions are good if you want to explore the coast and islands too. Outside of these months, Hoi An and Da’Nang can experience monsoons and stifling humidity… you have been warned! Where to Stay? If you’re a budget traveller like me, then the best place to stay in Hoi An is definitely the Love.ly Hostel. I totally loved this homely backpackers, where the communal dinners will have you feeling like part of the family in no time. My private room even had a little balcony, which was lovely and the prices and location of this great spot were top notch. Book your stay at Love.ly Hostel in Hoi An here. When it comes to Da’Nang, The Memory Hostel is the best place for budget travellers with its central location and lovely friendly owners. For something a bit more private and comfortable, check out the top-rated Square Villa in Hoi An and The Memory Hotel in Da’Nang, close to the beach. How Long to Stay? Hoi An is a small city you can easily explore in a day. If you want to include day trips – which you should! – I would allow a time period of 3-5 nights to stay in Hoi An. Although trust me, you’ll fall in love with it and want to spend longer! Da’Nang is a larger city, but the main attraction here is the beach (plus the water and fire Dragon Bridge display!), so depending how much you like relaxing on the sand will largely dictate how long you want to spend in Da’Nang. Most travellers spend 2-3 days here.
Continuing on Your Journey From either Da’Nang or Hoi An you can head north to either Ninh Binh, the Phong Nha Caves, Halong Bay or Hanoi. Alternatively, if you’re heading southwards, then you have the great destinations of Dalat and Ho Chi Minh all lying in store for you. 5 Essential Central Vietnam Packing Items #1 Good Day Pack – I never travel anywhere without a good backpack, which is essential to ensure I have everything I need for the day with me. This might be beach stuff, a guidebook, camera, rain jacket, snacks and water. Whatever it is, the Marmot Kompressor is my go-to, thanks to its water-resistant and lightweight qualities and the fact it packs down to next to nothing. #2 Walking Shoes – There’s likely to be a lot of walking in Vietnam especially around those temples and cities! As such, I advise packing a pair of good runners, like these New Balance trainers, which were perfect for my time here. #3 European & British Power Adapters – Vietnam has a mix of power outlets, but generally opts for a mix of the European and British ones, so make sure you come prepared with a Skross world adapter. #4 Camera and Lens – I love my Sony A6000 mirrorless, which was ideal for capturing the colour, chaos and cuisine and charm of Vietnam. #5 Travel Scarf – A great multi-purpose travel item that can be used to safely store valuables, as well as cover your shoulders while you explore many of Vietnam’s top sights, a travel scarf is a must for me!
